Surreal CMS - Alternative Content Management System
Sun 6th Feb 2011
Normally we choose to create a content managed website by creating a bespoke solution or by using one of the following content management systems: Drupal, ModX Revolution, Wordpress, Opencart. We evaluate the best solutions for the job so that our customers get the best value for money... So why would we turn out attention to the seemingly simple Surreal CMS content management system.
Quite simply, it allows non content managed websites to be made content managed really quickly and the server that the website is hosted on does not require a php or mysql installation. Consider it a simple web based alternative to Adobe Contribute.
Video Overview of Surreal CMS:
Occasionally we get customers who want content management but do not want to move / update their hosting to one that supports a database. This is quite an issue as this is normally a foundation requirement of most content management systems. All we need to do is install Surreal CMS on our servers and then point it at their web space (i.e. using their ftp details). Editable regions can easily be assigned within the html pages themselves (using class="editable").
It isn't the most feature rich, and as it isn't open source it also isn't as extendable as other content management systems but from a business perspective it certainly solves a problem not addressed by some of the other popularised CMS's.
Do you own a website that currently isn't content managed but have been told that you can't have content management? Contact Scorchsoft and see how we can use Surreal CMS to enable you to make simple text changes without having to upgrade your hosting.
