What is WordPress?
WordPress is the web's most popular Content Management System and a staggering 15% of all of the websites on the internet use it to allow their administrators to make content changes. It is so popular because of its wealth of plugins, themes and modules as well as its ease of installation.
When to use WordPress?
WordPress is particularly good when it comes to driving:
- Websites that need to manage articles created by multiple contributors such as online magazines, blogs and news platforms.
- Blogging. This is going back to WordPress' roots.
- Budget websites. A WordPress site doesn't instantly mean a cheap site, but we can take some approaches with WordPress to build sites on the cheap if you are happy to use pre-built themes.
An objective view of WordPress
Though there is no doubt that WordPress is a mature and powerful content management system, we feel that it isn't the right solution for every project. For example, if your web project has a lot of requirements that have to work exactly the way you want them to, then WordPress projects can quickly hit a wall should existing modules not suit your needs. There is always the option of getting your own modules made; however, this isn't always the best option.
We would recommend that you have a talk with Scorchsoft first about your requirements before deciding outright to go with WordPress. It may be that we can do a much better job with a different CMS such as MODX Revolution.
