Dragonfly Security Intelligence & Analysis Service App
The Dragonfly SIAS app provides comprehensive intelligence reports on global events and risks, features a 'Flashpoints Calendar' of significant events, and offers recorded briefing sessions as podcasts.

The Dragonfly Security Intelligence & Analysis Service (SIAS) app is a mobile intelligence app Scorchsoft built for Dragonfly, a FiscalNote company. It gives users easy access to intelligence reports, a flashpoints calendar, briefing sessions and contact details, alongside information on risk methodology, push notifications for priority reports and the ability to share reports.
Scorchsoft teamed up with Dragonfly to take their services to a new level by developing a mobile application. Dragonfly Eye already had a web application but recognised the growing value of mobile technology in reaching their customers more effectively. The SIAS mobile app aimed to improve the user experience and access to data.
An Agile approach to delivery
At the project's outset, both companies sat down to plot a detailed plan. During these sessions we offered two ways of working: a fixed-price 'Waterfall' approach, or the 'Agile' method. It was decided that an Agile approach to development would be the best fit.
If you're not familiar with Agile, it's a flexible way of managing projects, particularly in software development. Agile allows the project to adapt and evolve in response to any changes or new requirements that may arise. This is different from traditional methods, which attempt to define all requirements at the start and stick to a rigid plan.
That flexibility mattered here. From the get-go, the graphics and design elements were agreed, paving the way for a seamless progression of the project, and Scorchsoft carefully chunked the requirements throughout development to allow changes and additions as needed. You can read more about how we run projects this way on our agile app development and delivery page.
Inside the Dragonfly SIAS app
Intelligence reports, risk methodology, briefing podcasts, a Flashpoints Calendar and an in-app route back to the Dragonfly team.

Risk methodology
The app provides detailed information about different risk levels, from Negligible through to Critical. Users can open each of the 6 levels from a dropdown view and read a full description of what it means, so a rating in a report is never just a colour on a screen.

Intelligence reports
One significant feature of the app is the provision of comprehensive intelligence reports. These reports detail global events and risks, and users can open additional content such as images, modal pop-ups and related reports to build a fuller picture of the topic at hand.
The app also incorporates a nuanced filtering system, letting users search for reports on 5 criteria: date, report type, risk type, intelligence type and location. The location filter covers specific countries or whole continents through user-friendly dropdown menus.

Briefing sessions
Recorded briefing sessions are available as podcasts that can be downloaded and listened to while using other apps, or when the phone is locked. Each podcast session is complemented by a downloadable PDF report, so a listener can follow the written analysis alongside the audio.

Flashpoints Calendar
A short list of events dubbed the 'Flashpoints Calendar' has been incorporated into the app. These events are organised across 3 views — day, week and month — and can be filtered by country, risk and alert type. Users can also explore each event in detail by tapping on it.

Get in touch
An in-app contact form makes communication with the Dragonfly team straightforward, and the app also lists Dragonfly's office details for London and Singapore. Risk levels are presented here in the same dropdown view used throughout the app.
Push notifications
One of the app's highlights has to be the push notification feature. Users can opt to receive notifications about priority reports to stay up to date with the latest news, and tapping a notification takes them straight to the relevant report inside the app.
Sharing reports
Sharing knowledge is at the heart of the Dragonfly SIAS app — users can share intelligence reports by sending web links from the app. One potential hurdle was cleared by allowing even non-licensed users to view those shared reports, so a report can travel beyond the licence holder who found it.
The result
Scorchsoft's collaborative work with the Dragonfly and external API teams resulted in an advanced mobile app, delivered early and on budget. Within the first hour of launch the app passed 200 downloads. The Dragonfly SIAS app stands as a testament to Dragonfly's initiative to reach customers in a more modern, convenient way, complement the functionality of its web-based predecessor, and improve the user experience.

What Our Clients Say
Scorchsoft helped us take our idea for an app and make it a reality. Everything from the planning meeting to decide what we really needed to the project management and execution was great. It was delivered on time - early in fact - and on budget. Highly recommend.
Rebecca PalserDragonfly IntelligenceScorchsoft is a brilliant company with fantastic knowledge of the mobile app industry. From the project management to the development team, they have been the perfect candidate for our project, and we can't thank them enough!
Lance ChorltonGapped OnlineWe're really pleased with the work Scorchsoft has done in developing our web portal! They have been accurate with timelines and budget, delivering a solid product that allows us to monitor and manage patients remotely while they use our novel medical device at-home. The "plan - design - build" approach has worked well and saved us time in the long-run by catching requirements and issues early.
Daniel GreenSensTrainI'm really pleased with how my app came out, it was exactly what I was looking for. The team at Scorchsoft are great at what they do and made the whole process as simple and easy as possible. Being someone who is not very tech savvy the set up and back end operations were done in a great easy to use manner even for myself which makes using my app stress free. Thanks to all the team!
Ruben CarrollMosaic MasterpiecesThe new Flourish Education website has already removed a lot of manual processes, freeing up both schools, candidates and internal employees time. We are delighted with the look and feel which is clean, professional and more engaging. We are also pleased with the decision to have an HD video background on the homepage, and building immediate trust with our clients by giving them a taste of what it looks like in the Flourish Education offices.
James HancocksMarketing Manager, Flourish Education I can't believe how quickly we started to see results with this project. Scorchsoft provided us with graphic-designed mockups of how the app would look once built, and we were able to sell the product for use by our first customer before the product was finished. Since launching in March, we have secured a major television network as a client who now uses Image Approvals to manage the talent approval process for their productions.
