Building the Flourish Education recruitment website
Easy to use advanced search functions
When revenue comes from placing clients into jobs, ensuring that candidates can find and apply to relevant posts is critical. The UX design of the Flourish job finder was created to make this process as simple as possible.
Users can search for jobs by keyword, subject, contract type, distance and location, or by popular searches used by other people.
Real-time auto-updating of jobs
Originally admin staff had to manually post jobs to job posting sites, as well as to their website, a lengthy process that was costing lots of time and money.
To solve this problem Flourish embedded Matchmaker's advanced recruitment software to manage their jobs. We then integrated with this service to automatically load and update posts as and when they are updated, eliminating the need for the client to perform this task manually.
Super simple and effective job pages
The look and feel of the job pages is deliberately straightforward, with a strong contrasting colour for the primary call to action — applying for the position.
This design makes it easy for candidates to learn about the job, navigate around the site, and ultimately submit their CV; the page also translates very well onto smaller screens, which has increased conversion rates.
The brief
Flourish Education's original homepage and wider website were not being well used. The client felt it fell short in several areas and needed re-development, and because some of the requirements were unusual they approached Scorchsoft for our track record in creative problem-solving.
The goal was to improve the front-end of the website and add a back-end portal, serving both candidates (education recruitment job seekers) and clients (schools). The site had to be aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional: visitors should be able to search for jobs easily, and be reminded to apply, register, refer a friend or ask for a call back online.
Receiving regular, high-quality candidate CVs is critical to the business model, so candidate registration had to be as simple as possible. Because revenue comes from placing candidates into jobs, the client wanted job search available straight from the home page — something the previous site did not offer — as well as on the positions page.
We also proposed centre and category pages for each main role or subject area: Early Years, Primary, Secondary and so on, each with a tailored value proposition. Those pages show only the relevant vacancies, which improves SEO and supports more targeted PPC and social campaigns.
For the schools that source candidates from Flourish, the front-end needed to showcase safeguarding practices, compliance accreditations and testimonials, and let them register their details by creating an online account.
Online accounts for candidates and schools
The website gives candidates and clients access to online portal features, with each setting up their own Flourish Education user account.
Candidates build an online profile: career history, work skills, an uploaded CV, job applications, their availability for work and their timesheets. Schools can approve online timesheets, search the candidate talent pool and upload their own job vacancies.
Build, buy or bridge the gap
We helped Flourish with the tough decision of whether to develop the portal from the ground up, use an off-the-shelf package, or something in between. For the best value for money we recommended using third-party software to do most of the work, then bridging any shortcomings by integrating with that software through its API. Because this extended the CRM and email software Flourish already ran, it proved good bang for buck.
The MatchMaker portal software provides interface rules for loading jobs in real time, so job posting from the portal onto the website is automated.
The next decision was how to build the site so it would support that integration. We set out the options: an open-source content management system such as WordPress, or an open-source web development framework such as Laravel or Yii2. Flourish opted for the Yii2 bespoke development framework, which let us do the clever parts securely while supporting future extensions, and meant the CRM software could be integrated so the two act as one.
The result
The new Flourish Education website removed a lot of manual processes, freeing up time for schools, candidates and internal staff. The look and feel is clean, professional and more engaging, and the HD video background on the homepage builds immediate trust by giving visitors a taste of the Flourish Education offices.
Flourish has further developments in the pipeline to extend the capabilities of the bespoke website, with the aim of going above and beyond for candidates and schools so they keep returning for their job search and recruitment needs.
