Technically complex websites and digital platforms
Some websites are really software products. They may need accounts, search, assessments, calculators, dashboards, integrations, personalised content, workflow automation or data from other systems. That is a natural fit for Scorchsoft because our web design team works alongside experienced software engineers rather than handing designs over to a separate technical supplier.
Control Standard, our own project-control and learning platform, is a good example: the public website, interactive learning, assessments, user accounts and management tools all form part of the same product experience.
Simpler websites that carry strategic weight
A website does not need complicated functionality to be strategically important. Static site, CMS or bespoke framework? We choose around the job
We are not locked to one framework or one way of building websites. A relatively simple site with infrequent content changes may be best delivered as a fast static site. Where a marketing or internal team needs to publish and manage content regularly, we normally recommend a content-managed approach.
Our current CMS of choice is Payload CMS. It gives us a modern TypeScript/Next.js foundation, strong content modelling and enough flexibility to build structured sites that can grow into richer digital products. You can also read more about our content-managed website service.
For projects where another architecture is the better fit, we are comfortable working with technologies such as Laravel and Python, including Flask-based applications. The important decision is not which logo appears in the technology stack; it is choosing an approach that suits the product, the team maintaining it, the integrations it needs and how it is likely to evolve.
